Family
Parents
The third son of informal-trading maestro Josephine Tlaleng Mahlangu and supermarket owner/ taxi boss Harry Bereta Mahlangu.
Marriage
Lawrence and Keamogetsoe Faith Modise met in 1983 at Tembisa High School. They wed in 1996 and were due to celebrate 25 years in 2021.
Siblings
Born on the 13th of April in the year 1967, Lawrence was the sixth of twelve children in a family of five boys and seven girls.
Children
Their son, Katlego was born on the 23rd of November 1994 followed by their daughter Boikanyo on the 7th of June 2002.
Education
Primary
He started Sub A in 1974 at Siziba primary school in Tembisa and further did his Standard 5 at Thuthuka Primary School in 1981.
Tertiary
Upon return from exile, he was enrolled in an interior designing course through Inscape Design Collage but only completed 1st year.
Secondary
He started standard 6, then called form 1, in 1982 at Tembisa High School but only completed form 5 in 1988 due to student riots.
Diploma
To advance in his career in admin, he completed a Diploma in Human Resource Management through Technikon SA.
Politics
COSAS
In his secondary schooling years, he joined student politics through COSAS and became SRC President and part of the COSAS leadership which organized and staged a variety of resistance tactics such as boycotts and riots.
uMkhonto weSizwe
He was later recruited into the underground structures of the MK, the military wing of the ANC, serving in the Mayibuye unit as an all-rounder who recruited others, organized arms and assisted in deploying caders in SA.
Truth and reconciliation commission
The TRC said in a statement Umkhonto weSizwe members, Obed Salukwanda Madontsela and Lawrence Bongani Mahlangu, will seek amnesty for bombing the Tembisa administration offices. They said they were ordered to conduct armed operations in Tembisa in response to police brutality and the apartheid-sponsored local elections. They were convicted and sentenced for attempted murder and possession of firearms and ammunition. The applicants claimed the high command structure of MK in Botswana ordered the attacks.

SAPS (1991)
Lawrence joined the PWV Region ANC’s Department of Intelligence & Security and was later assigned to the SAPS’ VIP Protection Services.
chamber of mines (1998)
He then joined the Chamber of Mines as the Executive Assistant to the CEO and left in to further his business interests.
Mayoral Aide (1994)
After leaving his job as Commander of the Premiers intransito unit, he later joined the Office of the mayor (Kyalami Metro Council).
Miliswa Security
He joined in 2006 as a Business Development Officer and was then promoted to CEO in 2009, leaving the company in 2011.
